Finding Peace and Connection This Winter Break
Winter break is here — a perfect time to pause, recharge, and reconnect. For parenting students, juggling family responsibilities and personal goals can be challenging, but this season offers opportunities to simplify, bond, and nurture your well-being. Here are a few tips to help you de-stress, create meaningful moments with your loved ones, and return to your studies feeling refreshed and inspired. Let’s make this winter break a time of warmth, rest, and renewal!

RECONNECT
Reconnecting with the people you value most is one of the most meaningful ways to create lasting memories. Quality time is the most priceless gift you can give, strengthening bonds and bringing joy to those who matter most. Schedule regular family dinners or quick check-ins with friends to stay connected and uplifted. Explore free events like Chicago Park District programs, Free Museum Days, or Millennium Park activities for fun and affordable outings. These shared experiences offer a wonderful way to brighten the season while deepening your relationships.

RECHARGE
Prioritize self-care to recharge. Schedule small breaks from holiday activities to have wind-down time by catching up on your favorite show, listening to music, or having an at-home (or professional) spa day. Choose enjoyable activities you can realistically fit into your routine, such as yoga or a quick stroll, and stick to them consistently. Make time for much-needed rest, and if you have young children, consider a "family nap" to recharge together.

REFOCUS
As the new year and semester approach, take time to refocus and set the tone for what lies ahead. Journaling is a powerful way to reflect on the wins and lessons of the past year, helping you gain clarity and gratitude. Write down affirmations and encouraging words to guide and inspire you as you step into the new year with confidence. Affirmations are also a great practice for children as they develop their sense of self.
