Albany Park Community Center (APCC) is always looking for motivated, responsible, and compassionate individuals to lend a hand in many of our programs. We are confident you will find volunteering with APCC to be a very rewarding experience! Tutor English as a Second Language (ESL) or Adult Basic Education (ABE). Commit to six months of tutoring an adult in English, reading or math, following 12 hours of free training. Volunteers are also needed to tutor adults in citizenship preparation or in pre-employment literacy and computer skills. Training is on Saturdays while tutoring is usually twice a week for two hours per session, times and can be between: 9:00 am - 9:30 pm Monday through Thursday, and 9:00 am - 5:30 pm on Saturdays

Alpha Epsilon Pi was founded to provide opportunities for the Jewish college man seeking the best possible college and fraternity experience. We have maintained the integrity of our purpose by strengthening our ties to the Jewish community and serving as a link between high school and career.

Our heritage stems from one source: young Jewish men banding together in allegiance. The fraternity can be a home away from home, providing the same stabilizing and guiding values that students previously gained from their families. Jewish students search out Alpha Epsilon Pi because it is a Jewish fraternity. Since our founding in 1913, more than 102,000 men have worn the badge of Alpha Epsilon Pi and each year, thousands of undergraduates perform the Ritual of Initiation, which remains the same ritual adopted decades ago.

Perhaps of greater importance, Alpha Epsilon Pi provides education, resources and training to develop leadership for the future of the Jewish community. Tomorrow’s Jewish leaders are in our chapters today. These are the young men who must be counted upon to support Jewish causes and to prepare to be one of tomorrow’s Jewish leaders, so that they may aid themselves, their family, their community and their people.

Alpha Phi Gamma emerged in the Fall of 1993 and became a reality on February 1, 1994, as
the first Asian American Interest Sorority on the campus of California State Polytechnic
University, Pomona. The Founders were Allex Choi, Candy Cunanan, Christine Nguyen, Sandie
Rillera, Kolleen Kim, Grace Hsieh and Jennifer Oku. These Sisters wanted to bring together all
women of different nationalities through the bonds of friendship and sisterhood. The sorority
was established to promote service and Asian Awareness to the University and to the
community, allowing for all the different nationalities to discover what other cultures had to offer.
As with the beginning of any organization, Alpha Phi Gamma has started to grow in order to be
able to have a strong impact in the future. Since 1993, our Sisterhood bonds have grown
internally and formed foundations in California, Illinois, Missouri, Arizona, New York, Kansas,
Michigan, Colorado, Nevada, and Minnesota. Seeing our Sisterhood grow over the years is
exciting, but more important is that Alpha Phi Gamma has been able to maintain our values and

The organization was founded by Dr. Bertha VanHoosen in 1915 in Chicago, at a time when women physicians were an under-represented minority. As women in medicine increase in numbers, so have new issues that were not anticipated, and AMWA has been working to address these issues as they arise.

The mission of AMWA is to empower women, promote equality, and raise awareness about women's health and women in medicine. AMWA is the oldest multispecialty organization dedicated to advancing women in medicine and improving women's health. When disaster strikes, Red Cross volunteers are there to provide food, shelter, essential relief supplies and hope to individuals displaced by fires, floods, and storms. They provide health and mental health services following local and national disasters, and they support the international community when called upon. When military recruits prepare to leave for military service, Red Cross volunteers are there with them, explaining how the Red Cross will support them and their families throughout their military career and beyond. The Red Cross is one of the nation's largest blood collection organizations. Red Cross volunteers help with the collection and distribution of over 40% of the nation's blood supply. The American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) empowers pharmacists and pharmacy students to enhance quality of care for the geriatric population through the appropriate use of medication and the promotion of healthy aging. Students support and actively participate in projects to advance senior care pharmacy, including giving topic presentations about falls prevention, osteoporosis, medication safety, and more. The ASCP UIC-Student Chapter organizes monthly Medication Therapy Management events at a senior living home to promote quality geriatric care. Speakers are invited to UIC COP to present various topics relating to consultant pharmacy and inform students on ways to get involved. In addition, ASCP partners with Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly to raise awareness and relieve isolation among the Chicago elderly.

For patients with blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma, and other life-threatening diseases, a cure exists. Be the Match operates a registry that matches patients with lifesaving blood stem cell donors. Over 20 million people have joined the registry, however, there are still over 12,000 patients in need of lifesaving matches. Joining the registry takes only a few minutes and involves a fast digital form and cheek swabs that are mailed. ( When we are able to gather, we hold tabling drives and educate students/the public and sign them up in person.) The entire process is very simple and can be completed in just a few minutes. 1 in 430 people who register will one day match a patient and save a life, and donating is not painful, most often resembling blood donation. Only 30% of patients have a match in the family, and patients are most likely to match donors who share their ethnicity. Unfortunately, there is a disparity in the registry and all patients do not have an equal chance of finding a lifesaving match. Most of the donors who have joined the registry are Caucasian, so Caucasian patients have a much better chance of finding a match. Currently, a White patient has a 77% chance of finding a matching donor on the registry, however Hispanic, Asian and African American patients have only a 46%, 41% and 23% chance respectively. This is one of the largest disparities in medicine and we are fighting intensely to change those odds. It is the goal of Be the Match for all patients to have an equal chance of finding their match, regardless of their ethnicity. Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization founded in late 1992 by Kathleen A. Casey, CEO/President. The foundation is named in memory of her eight-year-old son, Barrett ÔÇÜ├ä├║BearÔÇÜ├ä├╣ Krupa, who died after a courageous five and a half year battle with Wilms Tumor, a pediatric cancer. Prior to his death on January 9, 1993, Bear and his mother discussed and planned the formation of Bear Necessities. During his long stay in the hospital, Bear expressed more concern for other pediatric cancer patients than he did for himself. He and his mother learned of the many hidden needs of both patient, family members, and the needs of the hospital facilities as well. Today, Bear Necessities operates two unique programs, Bear Hugs and Bear Discoveries. While the Foundation is funding cutting-edge research to end pediatric cancer, itÔÇÜ├ä├┤s also providing for the immediate needs of the children and families battling the disease.

We believe that everyone deserves a home. BEDS Plus Care delivers emergency services, including overnight shelter, housing services and homelessness prevention to reduce and end homelessness in Southwest Suburban Cook County. Each client who comes to BEDS is either literally homeless or their housing is threatened. Each situation has its own complex causes and requires individualized care. Professional case managers work with clients on individual service plans to help them secure affordable housing, stabilize, and rejoin their communities. We connect our clients with other agencies to address the needs of special populations, including families with children; seniors; veterans; domestic violence survivors; and people with disabilities. Some examples of activities the matches can enjoy on their own are: visiting the zoo, trying new food, sightseeing downtown, learning a new craft, playing in the park, visiting a college campus. The parent and child must be engaged in the full enrollment process - participate in family orientation, interview, and monthly match support phone calls. The family must have an active phone number and stable housing where the parent and child can be reached. This program is city-wide and is individualized to each Big and Little. The primary purpose of Chabad Jewish Student Group is to provide living Judaism to the students at the University of Illinois Chicago within the framework of traditional Judaism. Our objectives include but are not limited to; educational, ritual, and social activities, in addition to counseling and spiritual guidance to individual students. Our organization is based on Chassidic philosophy, as taught locally at the Chabad Jewish Student Center directed by Rabbi Bentzion and Chani Shemtov. Chi Sigma Tau is the first Asian American interest fraternity to have been founded in the Midwest. Chi-Care is an inclusive organization aimed at providing people who are homeless and need help the most with warm food, clean water and other resources where they live.We plan to grow the organization by obtaining a large vehicle to make delivering more food easier. Chi-Care is also focused on increasing the number of days per week that it operates.Food and water are rarely enough for an unsheltered person during a Chicago winter. Chi-Care intends to begin a clothing drive to provide coats, hats, and gloves.Chi-Care depends on its volunteers and donations to help people. A small monthly donation of $10 can help to provide up to four meals, assist in the purchase of a truck for deliveries, or pay for professional grant writing services that will bring even more resources to those in need.┬¼ÔÇá┬¼ÔÇá

LOVE BOX PROGRAM The Love Box program provides fostering families (caregivers, children in foster care, and biological/adopted children) with community and holistic support. This wrap-around support enables caregivers to continue to do the important and meaningful work of being foster parents. As a Love Box group, you will be matched with a local foster family based on location, compatibility, and scope of needs. When our families are matched with committed volunteers who show up monthly, parents feel supported and children gain a greater sense of normalcy, relational permanency, and self confidence. This program requires a one year commitment, but the connections and impact last a lifetime. DARE TO DREAM The youth (ages 11-22) in our Dare to Dream program need the wisdom, advice, encouragement, and community that mentors can provide. Mentors meet practical and emotional needs as well as provide guidance through developmental milestones. The goal is for youth to be engaged and to feel supported and equipped to navigate life. A mentor commits to meeting with the youth every other week to set goals and help them achieve their dreams. These relationships will hopefully last a lifetime, but the program is a year commitment. Mentors matched with a high school student are strongly encouraged to stay with the youth until high school graduation.

The United States Academic Decathlon (USAD) is a national academic competition. The Chicago Public Schools has the largest number of student participants than any school district in the nation. At CPS, approximately 70 high schools compete; each school has a nine-member team. Each team has three students with an A average, three with a B average and three with a C average. Every year, students are tested in 7 academic areas and the USAD offers three levels of competition (honors, scholastic, and varsity) as teams advance through the process of competitive elimination. CPS students compete in two citywide competitions and the citywide winner then progresses to the state competition. The culminating event is the national competition where students compete against other state championship teams. Goals Develop and provide academic competition to promote learning and academic excellence Foster teamwork among students of all achievement levels Provide an opportunity for students to excel academically through team competition Improve written and oral communication skills, time management, literacy and study habits. Our club has two main focuses. First, we host smaller fundraisers throughout the year and a large Relay for Life fundraiser in the spring to raise money for the American Cancer Society. This money goes towards helping uninsured and underinsured cancer patients pay for their medical care, funds guest houses for families of patients to stay with their loved ones as they undergo treatment, and is a major source of grant funding for cancer research. Our second focus is on raising awareness about cancer on campus, with events that focus on reducing cancer risk factors as individuals, hearing survivors' stories and honoring them, and showcasing the careers that we can pursue to serve cancer patients. We'll also plan a variety of outreach, advocacy, and service activities throughout the year.

We are a group of passionate players of the game of cricket. Our objective is to introduce cricket as a sport to UIC and give an opportunity to cricketers to play and enjoy this beautiful sport. We have participated in competitive tournaments like Grand Slam Romeoville and Schaumburg T10. We have also organized friendly matches against cricket clubs from other universities. The Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization dedicated to finding the cure for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. It was founded in 1967 by Irwin M. and Suzanne Rosenthal, William D. and Shelby Modell, and Henry D. Janowitz, M.D. Four decades ago, the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation created the field of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis research. Today, the Foundation funds cutting-edge studies at major medical institutions, nurtures investigators at the early stages of their careers, and finances underdeveloped areas of research. Educational workshops and symposia, together with our scientific journal, Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, enable medical professionals to keep pace with this rapidly growing field. No wonder the National Institutes of Health has commended the Foundation for "uniting the research community and strengthening IBD research."
