Happy February, Commuters! We have officially made it through January, and with that, winter is soon coming to a close. This month has a lot to offer, so check out what we've highlighted for you.

You are subscribed to Commuter and Off-Campus Life monthly newsletters for Graduate and Professional students. We will share events happening at the Commuter Student Resource Center, campus, and the city of Chicago.

Things to Do in Chicagoland this Month

  • V-Day workshops at the Pottery Loop: A perfect opportunity to try out a new activity with a friend, partner, or loved one! Both Galentine and Valentine classes are offered February, 13-14, 2026! 
  • Mi Corazon Coffee Shop: Try the limited edition Valentine's coffee drink menu at Mi Corazon! Enjoy fun flavors like Fresas y Crema or Choco Banana! This cafe is cash only, so keep that in mind (ATM inside). 
  • Sunday School, Amigas y Amistad: This month’s Sunday School event will be with @groovechi. Join us for an amigas y amistad yoga session! The class is 1:30PM on Sunday, February 15, 2026. Spots are limited.

Join us from 11 AM-1 PM for a midday Valentine’s celebration made just for commuter students. Drop in anytime to get creative! Students can decorate their own mini jewelry boxes, perfect for gifting to someone special (or keeping as a treat for yourself)! A guided painting session will be available each hour, too! Also enjoy tamales and quesadillas while you connect with other commuters!

Open to all students.

Black History Month 

The UIC Black History Month 2026 Student Planning Committee invites students, faculty, and staff to participate in this year’s Black History Month recognition from February 1-28, 2026.

Black History Month is an annual celebration of the achievements of Africans and African Americans and a time to acknowledge the central role of Black people in U.S. history. In observance of this important month, the University of Illinois Chicago has scheduled several campus events.

This year, we honor the theme "Stories of Our Resistance and Resilience."

Sparky's Drag Race

Get ready to sashay! Join us for Sparky’s Drag Race, a high-energy drag showcase celebrating creativity, self-expression, and community. Enjoy bold looks and unforgettable performances from UIC students and Delani Foxx, season 13 contestant of Rupaul's Drag Race.
