The University Library's Undergraduate Engagement Program (UEP) will be co-hosting a session of the Banned Book Club with Student Leadership & Civic Engagement (SLCE) at UIC's annual 2026 MLK Student Leadership Conference.

We will be listening to and reading Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s 1966 speech from Soldier Field. He addresses the Chicago Freedom Festival, envisioning a more just Chicago for all. Copies of the speech will be provided to attendees.

Banned Book Club Reads MLK will take place on Sat., Jan 31, during Session 2 of the breakout sessions, from 2–2:45 p.m. We hope to see you there!
