The purpose of this organization shall be to increase mental health awareness on campus by
focusing on peer support and education on the importance of mental health. We would like to
explore mental health in various cultural and healthcare contexts by stimulating conversations
within the UIC community. We shall also raise funds and seek out resources for mental health.

Alpha Epsilon Pi was founded to provide opportunities for the Jewish college man seeking the best possible college and fraternity experience. We have maintained the integrity of our purpose by strengthening our ties to the Jewish community and serving as a link between high school and career.

Our heritage stems from one source: young Jewish men banding together in allegiance. The fraternity can be a home away from home, providing the same stabilizing and guiding values that students previously gained from their families. Jewish students search out Alpha Epsilon Pi because it is a Jewish fraternity. Since our founding in 1913, more than 102,000 men have worn the badge of Alpha Epsilon Pi and each year, thousands of undergraduates perform the Ritual of Initiation, which remains the same ritual adopted decades ago.

Perhaps of greater importance, Alpha Epsilon Pi provides education, resources and training to develop leadership for the future of the Jewish community. Tomorrow’s Jewish leaders are in our chapters today. These are the young men who must be counted upon to support Jewish causes and to prepare to be one of tomorrow’s Jewish leaders, so that they may aid themselves, their family, their community and their people.

Throughout our history, the fraternity setting has served as a “learning laboratory,” a testing ground for young men who later become leaders in business, education, government, religion and science. Alpha Phi Gamma emerged in the Fall of 1993 and became a reality on February 1, 1994, as
the first Asian American Interest Sorority on the campus of California State Polytechnic
University, Pomona. The Founders were Allex Choi, Candy Cunanan, Christine Nguyen, Sandie
Rillera, Kolleen Kim, Grace Hsieh and Jennifer Oku. These Sisters wanted to bring together all
women of different nationalities through the bonds of friendship and sisterhood. The sorority
was established to promote service and Asian Awareness to the University and to the
community, allowing for all the different nationalities to discover what other cultures had to offer.
As with the beginning of any organization, Alpha Phi Gamma has started to grow in order to be
able to have a strong impact in the future. Since 1993, our Sisterhood bonds have grown
internally and formed foundations in California, Illinois, Missouri, Arizona, New York, Kansas,
Michigan, Colorado, Nevada, and Minnesota. Seeing our Sisterhood grow over the years is
exciting, but more important is that Alpha Phi Gamma has been able to maintain our values and
bonds across all our schools. As we continue to grow our Sisters will continue to uphold the
values and bonds of our Sisterhood all women of different nationalities, in our communities and
universities.
