What is NIRSA Rec Day?
NIRSA Rec Day is an annual celebration of collegiate recreation and wellbeing, held on February 22 to honor the founding of NIRSA: Leaders in Collegiate Recreation. Since 1950, NIRSA has been shaping the future of campus recreation, empowering students through fitness, teamwork, and leadership development.
Dr. William Wasson founded NIRSA on February 22, 1950, by uniting 20 intramural directors from 11 Historically Black Colleges and Universities to share his research on collegiate recreation. Rec Day is now celebrated worldwide, honoring its commitment to health, activity, competition, and inclusive participation!
UIC Recreation and Wellbeing is proud to be part of this movement, and we’re bringing you a lineup of engaging programs to get you moving, competing, and connecting!

Take a break from the grind and unwind with Recreation and Wellbeing at Rec Recess! Every Friday, we’re bringing the fun to you with a rotating lineup of tailgate and backyard games, set up at different spots each week. Whether you're looking to challenge your friends to a game of cornhole, test your skills at giant Jenga, or just want to relax and enjoy the vibe, Rec Recess has something for everyone.
What to Expect:
Games: Cornhole/Bags, Giant Jenga, Connect 4, Spikeball, Giant Bowling, and more!
Weekly Locations: New location every week – check our schedule to find us!
Relax & Recharge: The perfect way to unwind and kick off your weekend.

The Table Tennis Singles Tournament is a FREE single day event which will be held on Thursday, February 20th at approximately 5:00 PM (actual time may vary based on total participants; update will be emailed the day of the tournament). All tournaments are gender neutral. If you can play, you can play!
The tournament will take place at the Sports & Fitness Center - SFC (828 S. Wolcott St.). The registration deadline for the Table Tennis Tournament is Wednesday, February 19th at 11:59 PM.
