Alpha Phi Gamma emerged in the Fall of 1993 and became a reality on February 1, 1994, as
the first Asian American Interest Sorority on the campus of California State Polytechnic
University, Pomona. The Founders were Allex Choi, Candy Cunanan, Christine Nguyen, Sandie
Rillera, Kolleen Kim, Grace Hsieh and Jennifer Oku. These Sisters wanted to bring together all
women of different nationalities through the bonds of friendship and sisterhood. The sorority
was established to promote service and Asian Awareness to the University and to the
community, allowing for all the different nationalities to discover what other cultures had to offer.
As with the beginning of any organization, Alpha Phi Gamma has started to grow in order to be
able to have a strong impact in the future. Since 1993, our Sisterhood bonds have grown
internally and formed foundations in California, Illinois, Missouri, Arizona, New York, Kansas,
Michigan, Colorado, Nevada, and Minnesota. Seeing our Sisterhood grow over the years is
exciting, but more important is that Alpha Phi Gamma has been able to maintain our values and

The American Society of Consultant Pharmacists Student Chapter (ASCP) empowers pharmacists and pharmacy students to enhance quality of care for the geriatric population through the appropriate use of medication and the promotion of healthy aging. Students support and actively participate in projects to advance senior care pharmacy, including giving topic presentations about falls prevention, osteoporosis, medication safety, and more. The ASCP UIC-Student Chapter organizes monthly Medication Therapy Management events at a senior living home to promote quality geriatric care. Speakers are invited to UIC COP to present various topics relating to consultant pharmacy and inform students on ways to get involved. In addition, ASCP partners with Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly to raise awareness and relieve isolation among the Chicago elderly.

We provide point-of-care services such as blood glucose, blood pressure, and BMI screenings for the Asian population during our Chinatown, Argyle, and Korean Health Fairs. The APA family also has fun at social events such as ice skating, Korean barbecue, and hot pot! Our special project chair promotes awareness about hepatitis through vaccination clinics, fundraising, and educational events. Pharmacist Shadowing Program: As an ICHP member, you have access to a network of clinical pharmacists in various specialties.

Leadership: Opportunities range from positions in the ICHP student chapter on local level, the ICHP Committees on state level, and the ASHP Pharmacy Student Forum advisory boards on national level. Membership in the Student Forum provides students with practical tools and programs especially designed for pharmacy students. There are also plenty of opportunities to serve with us as a member of our Professional Activities Committee (PAC). There are positions available for P1s up to P3s.

Involvement within the UIC ICHP student chapter can occur on many levels. Most obviously, students can run for office on the UIC ICHP executive board. In addition, students may attend professional meetings, read monthly publications to keep up with current events, join the professional activities committee, participate in community outreach or simply attend monthly UIC ICHP chapter meetings.

Saluting: Saluting is a tradition unique to Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. Saluting is a means by which members of an organization can praise a particular member within their organization or to honor the organization's past and current accomplishments. Members write a salute, and tend to include words of modern-day songs. Once they have the text, they proceed to add motions to the salute. Typically, if there is more than one person performing a salute, the members will synchronize their movements. Saluting symbolizes unity and respect.
Strolling or Party Walking: Strolling is a tradition that traces back to the inception of historically African American Greek organizations and is practiced by many organizations to this day. Members of a Greek organization line up one after another. Similar to saluting, they move forward in a line performing the same dance. Strolling exhibits unity and pride.
Academic Support: Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Inc. was incorporated as an Academic Sorority in 1979. Scholarly excellence is our strongest mission. Each chapter has an Academic Chair to oversee the members' academic progress. The chapters host study skills workshops, time management workshops, study sessions and many other educational programs not only for the members but for the campus community as a whole.
Academic Incentives: Several chapters and areas within the sorority offer academic incentives for sisters who earn the highest grade point average and the sister who raises her GPA the most each semester. On a national level, the sorority provides several scholarships each year for outstanding academic achievement.
Regional Academic Incentives: The Board of Directors award a free entrance to a nationally sponsored event to the sisters with the highest grade point average within their region. Incentives are awarded each semester.
