Mission
The purpose of this organization shall be to increase mental health awareness on campus by
focusing on peer support and education on the importance of mental health. We would like to
explore mental health in various cultural and healthcare contexts by stimulating conversations
within the UIC community. We shall also raise funds and seek out resources for mental health.

Membership Benefits
Active Minds is a national organization dedicated to raising awareness about mental health and reducing the stigma surrounding mental illness. Becoming a member of Active Minds can offer several benefits:

1. Access to Resources: Active Minds provides its members with access to resources related to mental health awareness, education, and advocacy.

2. Community Engagement: Through events, workshops, and outreach initiatives, members can raise awareness about mental health, promote positive mental health practices, and foster supportive environments on their campuses or in their local communities.

Our mission is to develop and implement the Global Brigades holistic model to meet the health and economic goals of communities across Central America and West Africa. The Global Brigades model systemically builds community ownership to empower a community to develop and permanently alleviate poverty sustainably. Our chapter will support new volunteers regardless of their background or financial status by promoting and providing virtual, international public health research opportunities.

Members will benefit from a low-cost international research opportunity where they will learn how to develop and implement a holistic model to meet a Honduran community’s economic and public health goals. Virtual Tele-Brigade volunteers actively participate in public health research to identify health challenges, assess market demand for in-home infrastructure solutions, and build a Community Health Action Plan. Virtual Tele-Brigades provide volunteers with the same learning outcomes as an in-person brigade, with more community impact and significantly reduced costs, including money, time away from school, and any carbon footprint.
