The purpose of Global Gardens Student Group at UIC is to build a community that cultivates, celebrates, and shares the stories of migrant and refugee communities through the universal language of food. We believe food is a sanctuary, a place of comfort, culture, and connection. We seek to amplify these powerful stories while also providing direct support for Global Gardens in their work to create food security and economic opportunity for refugees in their new homes. Hearts for the Homeless at UIC is a non-profit organization that serves to provide one of the most vulnerable populations with free blood pressure screenings, education on the causes of high blood pressure, and clinical outreach programs. Through partnering with local food pantries and community health clinics, H4H strives to reduce the prevalence of hypertension in the homeless community of Chicago. Furthermore, Hearts for the Homeless seeks to educate its members about cardiovascular disease, patient interaction, and hidden difficulties in the homeless community through volunteer experience. This organization assists with shaping the minds of our members into compassionate leaders along with spreading awareness of cardiovascular disease to underprivileged communities in Chicago.

The purpose of this organization shall be to alleviate the burden of individuals, particularly children, who have experienced significant trauma due to adverse medical conditions. These medical conditions may stem from cancer, physical trauma, mental trauma and so much more. We acknowledge and understand that amidst difficult times individuals tend to lose sight of hope and willingness to fight, thereby greatly jeopardizing the ability of individuals to make a full and lasting recovery.
Therefore, it is the purpose of the students in this organization to provide small but meaningful acts of kindness to bring the spirits of these individuals up.
