The purpose of Global Gardens Student Group at UIC is to build a community that cultivates, celebrates, and shares the stories of migrant and refugee communities through the universal language of food. We believe food is a sanctuary, a place of comfort, culture, and connection. We seek to amplify these powerful stories while also providing direct support for Global Gardens in their work to create food security and economic opportunity for refugees in their new homes. As an organization, members will be able to gain insight into areas such as gardening, food preparation, and cultural diversity as well as hands-on experience in community outreach, advocacy, and humanitarian efforts. Serve Local Communities: Partner with local shelters, food drives, clinics, and neighborhood organizations to provide direct aid and support to those in need within the Chicago area and surrounding communities. Support Endangered and Underprivileged Communities Abroad: Organize fundraisers and donation drives to support humanitarian relief efforts in regions affected by conflict or crisis, including but not limited to Syria, Lebanon, and Palestine. Hearts for the Homeless at UIC is a non-profit organization that serves to provide one of the most vulnerable populations with free blood pressure screenings, education on the causes of high blood pressure, and clinical outreach programs. Through partnering with local food pantries and community health clinics, H4H strives to reduce the prevalence of hypertension in the homeless community of Chicago. Furthermore, Hearts for the Homeless seeks to educate its members about cardiovascular disease, patient interaction, and hidden difficulties in the homeless community through volunteer experience. This organization assists with shaping the minds of our members into compassionate leaders along with spreading awareness of cardiovascular disease to underprivileged communities in Chicago.

These medical conditions may stem from cancer, physical trauma, mental trauma and so much more.
