Exercise is Medicine® (EIM) is a global health initiative co-launched in 2007 by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the American Medical Association (AMA). The vision of EIM is simple but powerful: to make physical activity a standard part of health care and to connect individuals with movement opportunities that support long-term health and well-being.
Today, EIM exists in nearly 40 countries, helping health care providers and communities promote physical activity as a critical part of disease prevention and treatment. Research continues to show that regular movement can be just as effective as medication in reducing the risk of chronic conditions, boosting energy, improving sleep, and enhancing overall quality of life.
Exercise is Medicine On Campus (EIMOC) brings this vision directly to colleges and universities, encouraging campuses to promote physical activity as a vital sign of health. At UIC, we are proud to celebrate Exercise is Medicine Month with events that inspire students, faculty, and staff to move well and be well.

Throughout October, Recreation and Wellbeing is spotlighting the many benefits of movement with free fitness classes, wellness activities, and opportunities to connect with your UIC community.

October 1 | Nourish & Move: The Mindful Mile
Take a 1.5-mile campus walk that blends movement with mindful nutrition and hydration tips.
2:15–3:15 PM | Start and end at the SRF
October 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 | Pop-up Group Fitness Classes
Join us every Friday for a different group fitness class to bring intentional movement to the end of your week - helping you feel grounded, energized, and connected to your body.

Start off Exercise is Medicine Month with an energizing and educational wellness walk with our Campus Dietitian and UIC Recreation & Wellbeing!
Join us on Wednesday, October 1, from 2:15pm-3:15pm for Nourish & Move: The Mindful Mile- a 1.5-mile walk through the UIC campus that blends physical activity with nutrition and hydration education.
We’ll start and end at the Student Recreation Facility (737 S. Halsted) while sharing quick tips on fueling your body, staying hydrated, and making mindful choices that support overall health.
After the walk, enjoy a complimentary refreshments, food samples from local vendors, and nutrition education.
All students, staff, and faculty are welcome. No special attire needed- just bring yourself and a willingness to walk!
Take a step toward better health. Nourish your body and move your mind.
**Note: Meet at 2:00PM. Walk will begin at 2:15PM

F45 emphasizes community, dynamic workouts, and a supportive team environment for achieving your fitness goals.
Classes are led by certified coaches and feature small group sessions that emulate the experience of working with a personal trainer.

Zumba is a fun, high energy dance fitness class that blends Latin and rhythms with easy to follow choreography. Designed to feel more like a dance party than a workout.
