The American Society of Pharmacognosy (ASP) was founded to promote the growth and development of pharmacognosy, to provide the opportunity for association among students in the sciences, and to provide opportunities for presentation of research achievements. ASP supports scholarly effort and the dissemination of results in the broad, interdisciplinary world of pharmacognosy and associated natural product sciences; therefore, the establishment of student chapters will promote an interest in the science of natural products, as well as aid in the development of the next generation of pharmacognosists.

The primary purpose of this organization is to provide medical students at UIC exposure to the field of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Many medical students may not be familiar with this growing field and it may be attractive to students who are also interested in orthopedics, neurology, and sports medicine. In addition, the rehab issues that physiatrists work with are relevant to internal medicine and a variety of other specialties.

Through lectures, hands-on workshops (ex. MSK physical exam practice, ultrasound workshops), and shadowing opportunities students will get a first hand glimpse into the life of a physiatrist and the holistic approach to patient care they take. Students will also be able to learn more about the field through talks. Another goal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Interest Group is to coordinate a variety of service opportunities including adaptive sports camps and race medicine events.
