Our club has two main focuses. First, we host smaller fundraisers throughout the year and a large Relay for Life fundraiser in the spring to raise money for the American Cancer Society. This money goes towards helping uninsured and underinsured cancer patients pay for their medical care, funds guest houses for families of patients to stay with their loved ones as they undergo treatment, and is a major source of grant funding for cancer research. Our second focus is on raising awareness about cancer on campus, with events that focus on reducing cancer risk factors as individuals, hearing survivors' stories and honoring them, and showcasing the careers that we can pursue to serve cancer patients. We'll also plan a variety of outreach, advocacy, and service activities throughout the year.

Our model systematically builds community ownership and collaboratively executes programs with the end goal of sustainably transitioning to a relationship of impact monitoring.

The purpose of this organization is to empower students and Buddies to break through the boundaries imposed by Alzheimer's Disease and discover a new identity together. National Alzheimer's Buddies is an intergenerational movement responding to the profound isolation and social disengagement experienced by people in the intermediate-to-late stages of Alzheimer's Disease (AD) who are living in long-term care facilities. Slowly, we will build meaningful, lasting relationships with residents during weekly one-on-one visits. As volunteers, we look past what's lost with Alzheimer's Disease. We focus on drawing out the beauty in the person living before us. Meanwhile, the journey of discovering who they are, helps us to define, refine, and strengthen ourselves.

By joining our organization, members gain volunteer hours for their time spent visiting a Buddy (i.e., an older adult diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease or dementia at one of our partner facilities), forging an invaluable relationship and providing essential companionship in the process.
